FRANK G. FELKAI, QC March 3, 1942 – July 29, 2016 Frank died peacefully at home in Toronto. He is survived by his wife Joan (Newlands), son David and sister Maggie. He was predeceased by his brother Julius and will be fondly remembered by his nine nieces and nephews. At age 14, Frank fled Hungary after the 1956 Revolution. On December 7, 1956 he was admitted to Canada as a refugee and established his Canadian roots in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Frank attended the University of Toronto and after his admission to the Ontario Bar, he served as Executive Assistant to the late Honourable Herb Gray, P.C., M.P. Ottawa. From 1973 until his retirement in 2015, he practiced civil litigation and criminal law in Toronto. He was a President of The Lawyers Club, director of the Advocates’ Society and an active member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations. Frank had a lifelong passion for sports. He was a member of the University of Toronto water polo and track and field teams. He was an avid swimmer, tennis player and skier and will be remembered by the many children and parents of the North Toronto and Mooredale soccer leagues as “Coach Frank”. As a devoted member of the Hungarian- Canadian community, he served as Vice President of the Hungarian Helicon Society, director of the Hungarian- Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Rakoczi Foundation. Frank’s love for politics began at university. He volunteered in many provincial and federal elections and ran twice as the Don Valley West Liberal candidate during the 1979 and 1980 federal elections. His sense of adventure and enthusiasm for travel led him to explore the world. He lived his life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to connect with people. From politics, law, the Hungarian community, to his many friends at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club, he will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched. We thank the doctors and nurses at St. Michael’s, Sunnybrook and Mt. Sinai hospitals for their wonderful care and support. A private family service will be held followed by interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Please join us at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 to celebrate Frank’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the St. Michael’s Foundation in Frank’s memory would be sincerely appreciated.
