Fred LANGER

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of our beloved brother, Dr. Fred Langer, who passed away March 20, 2017 at his home.

It is without question that he was a giant in his field of Orthopedic Surgery, a world renowned researcher and innovator, who pursued his career with a mission to always provide his patients with the highest level of medical care. His devotion to his patients and his striving to always improve his craft was a model for all doctors to emulate.

As Chief of Orthopedics at Mount Sinai, his favoured role was as teacher and mentor to medical students and residents.

As his brother, I observed many of his interactions with residents and noted that he brought not only an expectation of being the best you could possibly be at your profession, but also an incredible sense of humour that made working with him a memorable and very human experience. He encouraged me at every step of my medical career, to be the best at my profession as a psychiatrist.

If that was not sufficient, he was in addition an incrdibly talented, creative photographer who could be counted upon to produce a work of art.

It is a great loss to all of us who knew him and loved him. I cannot believe he is gone, but he was at peace and truly grateful for a having the opportunity to live an incredibly meaningful life.
