GeorgeSidorowicz

A strong academic with a masters based on the European Red Squirrel, PH.D based on the Norwegian Lemming, full professorship, Doctor of Zoology based on the geographic distribution of carnivorous animals.
George loved to read, especially books on the north; Amundson’s trip across the North Arctic Pole and his journey to the South Pole. He praised Norway always for the opportunity to go on scholarship into the interior to study for is Ph.D. In Norway he immediately arranged to meet a survivor from Amundson’s group, his radio operator. He was proud of travelling to many countries, Antarctica, Istanbul, Troy, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, West and East coast of India plus the golden triangle of Northern India, Russia, U.K., France, Spain, and South America including Peru, Ecuador, and Galapagos with its strange and wonderful animals, Hawaii, Iceland and Greenland among others.
George taught university in Africa and Europe and supported with great enthusiasm the genuine person and the genuine academic. He was fair to the ignorant and honoured the sincere academic not only in zoology and environmental science but in history and literature. He could also put his bridge partner into 7 no trump and not complain if they were less competent.
George believed in beards, lottery tickets, Tilley Endurable, pipe smoking and Canadian Dry Sherry that was as dry as his occasional sudden wit. His farm experience extended from his youth in Poland to his frequent farm trips to the farm in Ontario to 1st ride Waltmister, 17 + hands and then to hand feed his present 2 horses. His Scotty has a personality that matched his stubbornness, determination and loved crackers. George’s Airedale, his first dog after the war also matched his personality, alert, “please to meet you and I don’t give up”. His British dogs reveal outwardly his deep admiration of all things British, cemented by a visit to England with the Polish Ambassador. He honoured his Masonic duties over almost 40 years.
George knew the Father and the Son. His own son has also become a Ph.D. following in family tradition and his footsteps.
He came to Canada to save a blonde, to see the moose and to pour maple syrup over just about everything he cooked which he always did in double quick time. He had no time to lose, he had to get on with life!
George’s extended family included the Ingles, Christies, Sils, Cannells, Beatty, Benhams from Ontario, the Sidorowicz’s from Ottawa, Australia and especially the O’Laque’s in LA., the Hablers from the U.S.A. The northern families of Jouppi’s gave many a warm welcome.
Despite his pain from a major car accident many years ago and more recently a broken back George continued to walk albeit with a cane. He refused to lie down on life as it were and was planning to go on an ocean voyage to Alaska. That will be next time! He didn’t say good bye before he left, I guess that’s hello next time as well.
