RANKIN, Gerald Thomas November 4, 1930 – July 21, 2017. It’s with heavy hearts that the family is sharing that Gerald (Jerry) has succumbed to his final battle with cancer, and passed away peacefully during his brief time at Elisabeth Bruyer Palliative Care. He is predeceased by his bride of 58 years (Joan) and was a loving and devoted father to his children; Jay (Cathy) and Kelly and grandchildren Martin, Ross, Amber, Seamus and great- granddaughter Kate. He is predeceased by his parents Annie and George, and brothers; George, Jack (WWll), Lloyd, Brice and Norm. Survived by his sister Evelyn as well as many, nieces, nephews and extended family. He always treasured time with his family and friends near and far. He was born in Hamilton where he enjoyed being surrounded by a large loving family which set the benchmark for his future where he too would have his own family (but much smaller). He had a strong work ethic and will be remembered for being an avid outdoor sportsman, Jr. Tiger Cat Football player (and devout Ticat fan), athlete, coach, traveller, and always kind and young at heart. Although he and Joan retired to Ottawa many years ago, they always considered home to be Hamilton and Burlington. Sincere thanks to the healthcare professionals and home care support and for the love and kindness of family and friends. At his request, there will not be a funeral service and a private cremation and memorial will take place. The family encourages memories to be shared. If you wish, memoriam donations in Gerald’s honour may be made to a charity of your choice.
