Gladys(Davey) PYKE

PYKE, Gladys (Davey) 85, passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Woodinville, WA. She was born September 23, 1931 in Dundas, Ontario, to Wilfred and Gladys Davey. After completing high school and attending teacher’s college, she taught kindergarten and 1st Grade for 3 years before marrying her high school sweetheart, Ronald Pyke, in 1953 in Hamilton. The newlyweds then moved to Seattle, WA, where Ron attended the UW and would later teach Mathematics. After brief stays in Palo Alto and New York, Gladys and Ron returned to the Seattle area, eventually purchasing a farm in Redmond. Gladys was very active at First Baptist Church of Eastgate and Westminster Chapel, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano, and singing. She also enjoyed oil and watercolor painting, cooking, baking, gardening, and frequently hosted large groups of family and friends. She is remembered for her gracious hospitality, love of children, gentle, caring spirit, and loving smile. Gladys was preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald in 2005, and is survived by her daughter Darlene; sons Brian (Lynne), Ron (Linda), and Gordon (Kathy); 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Gladys was a loving sister to Dolores Guthrie of Oakville and brother David Davey of Hamilton, Ontario. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 23rd, 1 p.m. at Westminster Chapel, 13646 NE 24th St, Bellevue, WA 98005.
