GordonArthur ROGERS

ROGERS, Gordon Arthur It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Arthur Rogers on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the age of 88. He will be missed by so many, including his beloved wife of 64 years, Marion, children Steven (Jacqui), Vicky (John) and Wendy (Adam) and his nine grandchildren who were lucky enough to have him as their “Papa”. Gord had the great fortune of being involved in their lives from early childhood and watched them become successful young adults. He is survived by each of them – Jennifer (Mike), Emma (Kevin), Gordie, Sarah, Derek, Marika, Lindsay, Laura and Andrew and his great-grandchildren, Lauren and William. He was predeceased by his sister Joan and will be missed by his surviving siblings, Doreen and Jack. Gord also had a lifelong friendship with his sister-in-law May and her husband Dean and had close family times with their children Diane (John), Sue (John) and David (Joan) and their families. Gord’s interests varied from singing with the Redman Group, attending monthly meetings with Probus, exercising with the Cawthra Seniors “Fit Fellows” and weekly meetings at Applewood United Church’s men’s group. He was fiercely loyal to his alma mater, the University of Guelph, graduating in Agricultural Engineering, Class of 1951. He enjoyed their annual reunions, which continue to this day. Gord made friends easily wherever he went, because of his love for conversation, easy-going manner and genuine interest in other people. He worked for 35 years at Caterpillar of Canada. Gord was always interested in new opportunities and turned a post-retirement part-time position with LaFert Metric Motors into a two decade-long adventure, which was far more memorable than he could have initially imagined. Gord loved the simple pleasures in life, like a casual round of golf with his buddies, tending to his backyard garden and going to a Blue Jays game. He loved nothing more than to catch the sunset at his Lake Eugenia cottage. Gord remained active and vibrant even in the last months of his life and faced his end of life challenges with dignity and bravery. We will miss him every day and cherish our memories forever. We would like to thank Dr. Thorner and the team at Dorothy Ley Hospice for their exceptional care. A Memorial Service and lunch reception will be held at Applewood United Church, 2067 Stanfield Road, Mississauga, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Arrangements entrusted to Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 905-279-7663.
