Greta DAVIES

Greta passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, on Sunday, March 19, 2017, following a stroke.

Beloved wife of Jack Davies (deceased), adored mother of Stephen and Susan, Heather Anne and Guy Ashford-Smith, Christopher and Nadia, Andrew and Leanne. Loving grandmother of Victoria and Eric Bourgeois, Katharine, Brittany, Alicia, Alexia, Drew, Sarah and great-grandmother of Abryanne and Matthew. Dear sister of predeceased Erik and his wife Leona, Edith (Sandra), Axel and survived by his wife Joan, as well as her sisters Mona, Mary and her husband Richard.

In addition to being an accomplished pianist, Greta was a professional choral singer for 10 years with the renowned Bach Elgar Choir. She was a faithful devout Christian with St. Philip’s Lutheran Church where she established and directed the Children’s Chimes Choir, directed the hand-bell choir for 20 years, sang with the congregational choir for over 50 years and devoted her time generously to her church community. Greta dedicated her time to numerous church committees and enjoyed playing bridge with the church bridge club.

Greta lived a rich and full life. While raising her 4 beautiful children, Greta was a pillar of strength for the long-standing family business. She had a passion for painting, cooking, needle point, quilting, knitting, and sewing. Those fortunate enough to receive an afghan or quilt were blessed with a work of art. Greta was also an avid gardener.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy. 10, north of QEW), on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 61 West Deane Park Drive, Etobicoke, on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens.

In Greta’s memory, donations may be made to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) or the Scott Mission.
