HICKEY, Helen Irene (nee Richards) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen, in her 86th year at the Juravinski Hospital. Helen fought valiantly and with great courage to stay with us a little longer, but passed from this life on Friday, August 25th after suffering a severe stroke. Helen leaves behind her beloved husband, Ron and her devoted and loving sons Dan (Mary) and David (Sheian). Helen will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jason (Melissa), Lisa (Sheena) and Olivia, as well as by her great-grandchildren Ava and James. Helen possessed a feisty spirit and a great sense of humour that stayed with her through her final days. Helen was a fixture for many years at the Mountain Bingo Centre, which she helped establish with her husband, Ron. A sincere thank you to all of Helen’s nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who gathered around to comfort her during her last few days with us. Helen loved you all and thought of you always. Thank you also to the caring staff at the Juravinski Hospital, especially the Emergency Department and Wards F3 and E4. Your compassion and care for Helen and her family has been exemplary and has meant the world to us. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 416 Mohawk Road East in Hamilton. “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” – Winnie the Pooh
