Irma ROBITAILLE

(nee LEVESQUE)

Irma (Levesque) Robitaille was the force that held family together. Born in 1924 into a large family of 12 children in the GaspĂ©, Quebec, Irma uprooted herself to Toronto in 1946 in search of work. She didn’t expect to also find her life’s love. Married for 62 years, Irma and Marcel Robitaille built a family of 10 children, Lise Andreana (Gerry Kowalchuk), Paula (Charles) Clayton, Julie (William) Forrest, Claire (John) Burnett, Melanie (Ira Rabinovitch), Philippe (the late Teresa Zawiejska), Louis (Mary Dillon), David (Lianne Adelson), Diane (Charles Weiss) and the late Marc. Grandchildren later came to expand the family and their legacy; Anita, Peter, Michael, Adam, Ian, Jonathon, Alicia, Edward, Basile, Sanda, Celeste, Marcel, Madeleine and Matthew. Just as a work of art can be interpreted in many ways, Irma had a unique impact on all those around her, including friends, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered for countless apple pies, family dinners, birthday cards and her remarkable way with children. A true French-Canadian, an inspiring chef and a domestic engineer with a boundless social curiosity, Irma was a natural, dignified and respected matriarch to generations of a big family. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clement Catholic Church, 409 Markland Dr., Etobicoke, on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Nashville Cemetery.
