COLES, James Arthur —

Jim Coles lived a wonderful, loving life for 86 years. He died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on June 17th, with family by his side. An educator and musician, Jim taught in Toronto at Humberside and Lawrence Park Collegiates and in Forest Hill Village schools. While living in Ottawa he conducted the Ottawa Youth Orchestra and the Ottawa Civic Symphony. Jim moved to Kingston to become Coordinator of Arts for the Frontenac County Board of Education, and while in Kingston he conducted the Kingston Youth Orchestra, the Kingston Community Strings and the Eastern Ontario Concert Orchestra. Jim was very active with the Kingston Symphony as President, Board member and violinist. He was also an active member of the Frontenac County Teachers Children’s Theatre Company. Jim leaves his wife, Beverley (Laxton), his sister, Violet Grant, four children, David (Deborah), Randall (Heather), Janice and Martin (Jay): six grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Lauryn, Benjamin, Eli and Rosie, two great-grandchildren Nicholas and Colton, and two step-great-grandchildren, Ava and Levi and several nieces and nephews. Jim will also be missed by his many friends. Visitation Wednesday, June 22, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston. Service Thursday, June 23, 3 p.m., St. George’s Cathedral, 270 King Street East. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Jim’s name made to the Kingston Symphony Association or UHKF (KGH Foundation).f
