With great sadness at the age of 86, Joan Marie Barnes (nee Gamelin) passed away on May 22, 2021 at the Dartmouth General Hospital with her family at her side. Joan was born in Hamilton, Ontario.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Linda), Forest Hills, NS, Lynn (Richard) Garneau, John (Gretchen) & Cheryl (Keith) Callahan, all of Eastern Passage, NS. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Michelle Saulnier & Shannon Barnes; grandsons, Chris, Scott, Shawn, Jeffery, Andrew & Adam (Barnes) & Drew Garneau and the Callahan family & Deluney family and special friends Grant & Tom Mumford. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Caroline Gamelin (Elliott) both of Hamilton, Ontario; brothers, Orville (Fran) Gamelin & Donald (Betty) Gamelin; husband, James (Poopsie) Barnes; infant son, Shawn and partner, Bob Deluney. Joan loved playing darts and cards and was a member of Centennial Legion Branch 160, Lake Pleasant Campers Club and the Newfoundland Club. She also loved to knit, do crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She will be dearly missed as a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society or SPCA Dartmouth, where she got her longtime feline friend Joey. Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no visitation or funeral. Next time you are out shooting darts or playing crib or having a game of Euchre raise a glass to JOAN.
