JOANBROWN

BROWN, JOAN Married to Roy at age 18, they were inseparable and in love for 68 years. Beloved mother to Lanee, Debbie (deceased), Sally and Tim and their spouses, Bill, Gerard and Sandy. Much loved grandma to David, Rebecca (Shawn), Kevin (Rochelle), Justin (Elysia), Robert, Katie (Mike), Michael and Nicholas. Proud great-grandmother to Jax, Rileigh, Jace and Eliena. Loving cousin to Mort. Raised in Toronto, Joan skipped grades 2 and 4 and graduated high school at age 15. It was at Richard’s Glass, as the forelady, that she met Roy, who insulted her by calling her the ‘floor lady’. She went out with him anyhow and a 68-year romance ensued. A lifelong resident of Lorne Park, Joan was an active and outspoken member of the community. She and a friend petitioned to have Tecumseh Public School built. A member of the Park Royal bowling league, PTAs and Ratepayers’ Associations, Joan also canvassed for The Salvation Army and worked tirelessly in provincial and federal elections. In 1974 she became Vice President of Roy’s company, ROI Corporation. An avid sports enthusiast, Joan sailed, crewed and served on race committees and the Ladies’ Auxiliary at Port Credit Yacht Club. For years she held season tickets to the Argos games. She never stopped cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays or the Leafs. As the strong willed and fiercely loyal matriarch of our family, she had a profound influence on the many people who came into her life. People of all ages loved “Saint Joan”. She possessed an innate ability to connect with her humour, opinions, intellect and wit. A personality this large is not soon forgotten. “The sun for sorrow will not show its head”, but she will live in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall.
