JOHN KENNETH (KEN) GILLIS

JOHN KENNETH (KEN) GILLIS

GILLIS, JOHN KENNETH (KEN) Passed away on June 3, 2021 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Judy (Matheson), her best friend and soulmate for over 68 years. The best Dad to Karen (deceased) (Graeme), Nancy (Bruce), Sandy (Mike) and Scott (Emma), and much loved Grandpa to Cam, Rob, Emmy (deceased), Johnnie, Tara, Kendra, Morgan, Matheson, and Becca. Ken was always a man with a long-term plan.

It started with his dream of buying our beloved property 67 years ago on Shadow Lake, then setting out to build the Log Cottage where the family still gathers today. After 37 years of employment at the Office of the Provincial Auditor, he took a well-earned early retirement. After some travel, it was on to the next phase of life, at “Pine Quarry Lane” in Coboconk. It was here that he lived out his dream of spending time in the bush, managing the woodlot, building a sugar shack, producing maple syrup, and grooming a cross country ski trail where he welcomed old and new friends alike. He amazed us all with his mastery of every new project with well-thought-out determination and planning.

When health demanded that Ken slow down, he and Judy moved to Lindsay, where he turned his attention to recording family genealogy with dedication. Throughout his life, he was a quiet, gentle man and a true gentleman. Ken was a friend to all who passed his way. Arrangements have been made through Mackey Funeral Home in Lindsay. Due to Covid restrictions, the funeral will be limited to 10 persons in attendance.

The funeral service will be live- streamed from Cambridge St. United Church on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 1 p.m. http://theunitedchurch.com/ In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Variety – the Children’s Charity or Cambridge St. United Church.
