John BRYANT

In his 90th year, John Howard (Jake) Bryant passed peacefully at Trillium Retirement Residence and Care Community in Kingston on January 15, 2017. Son of the late Thomas and Bella of Galt, ON (now Cambridge). Predeceased by brother Bert and sister Isobel. Cherished husband of Betty (nee Blacker) for 68 years. Loving father of Tim (Jan), Ted (Pat), Tom and Cindy Reynolds (Neil McSween). Beloved by his seven grandchildren Jessica (Craig) Earle, Erin (Robert) Partridge, Kathryn (Myles) Perchuk, Joshua, Carolyn (Randall Wewer), Lizzy and Julia, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, especially Cheryl Hovard-Walker. Jake graduated from Queen’s University (Engineering Chemistry) in 1951 and joined C.I.L. Explosives research at Nobel, ON and later Beloeil, QC. With a growing family, he chose a much safer career and became a much-loved high school chemistry teacher in Mississauga for over 25 years. He retired in 1986 and moved to Kingston in 1996, where he enjoyed his passions of family, golf, theatre, symphony and gardening. A visitation to celebrate Jake’s life will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. West, in Mississauga from 1-4 p.m. His love of wit and a story well-told, along with his kind and generous spirit, brought joy to everyone he met. Heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Trillium Retirement Residence and Care Community for making his home special and loving. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington; or the MS Society of Canada.
