NEWHOUSES, John Cornelis
(December 3rd, 1947 – June 13th, 2016)
Passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Devoted and loving husband of almost 35 years to Sue (nee Peeters). Loving father to Julie (Ian) Jenkins, Laura (Jason) Appleton, Amanda (Brandon) Tamane, and Adam (Leesa Rouleau) Newhouses. Mentor to nephew Stephen Wright. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Emily Newhouses and Quinn Jenkins. He will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law Leo Peters and his wife Marilyn. He is also survived by brothers Harry (Cork) Newhouse, Bill Nieuwenhuyzen and Rob (Cathy) Nieuwenhuyzen. He was predeceased by his brother Pieter Nieuwenhuyzen. John was born in Rotterdam, Holland and his family moved to Lindsay, Ontario when he was young. As an adult he moved to Oshawa to pursue his dream of being an accountant. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1972. Next to his family he loved his career; he truly believed that if you loved your job you would never work a day in your life. This belief kept him taking professional development courses and talking with clients right up until his final weeks. When he was not working, John enjoyed travelling (especially to Florida), reading, and spending time with his family. The Newhouses would like to extend their appreciation to Sue Dalton of CCAC and Dr. McAllister of Palliative Care for the care and compassion shown to John and his family. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234) on Thursday, June 16th in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Guests are warmly encouraged to wear their Hawaiian shirts or their favourite baseball shirts to the service. Memorial donations to Princess Margaret Hospital or the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation would be appreciated.
