John Douglas SMITH
SMITH, John Douglas 1936-2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Douglas Smith in his 81st year on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 due to complications resulting from surgery. Doug was a loving husband of 58 years to Helen and father to Karen (James), Kim and Barb. Loving grandfather to Chad (Janice) and Joshua. He was a retired Bell Canada employee, 38 years, and played trumpet for many years with the Hamilton Firefighter Drum Core and R.H.L.I. Bugle band. Doug is predeceased by his parents Myrtle and Jack and sister Barb Ramage. He will be lovingly remembered by his many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Doug was very fortunate to have a lifelong friendship with Robert Minnett. Doug enjoyed sailing, golfing, cursing, making people laugh and spending time with family and their beloved dogs. We would like to thank the staff from Lincoln Terrace at St. Peter’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital for all their wonderful care and compassion. No formal service will be held at Doug’s request. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Doug’s smile and sense of humour will always be remembered.
