MARKLE, John Henry —

December 23, 1923 – April 7, 2017

John passed away peacefully, in his 94th year at his residence surrounded with love. Left to celebrate his life are Dorothy, his wife of 69 years; children Paul, John (Mary), Peter (Pam), Dorothy (Emil), David (Debbie) and Ann Marie; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was a humble and generous man. He coached hockey for more than 50 years, first with the St. John’s Church League and later with Ted Reeve Arena, where he also took all the team photos. He provided this service at cost, out of his love for photography. He was employed for 35 years with Metro Roads and Traffic as chief draftsman. A past President and current trustee on the Metropolitan Toronto Pension Plan, he was instrumental in securing sufficient coverage for plan members since 1956. Through-out his life he supported numerous charities; including the funding of school builds in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia. He was passionate about music, sports, gardening and community service. His Catholic faith was of great importance in his life. He generously contributed both his time and finances to missions and his church.

Visitation will be at the Giffen Mack Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, on Tuesday, April 11th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church, 794 Kingston Road, Toronto on Wednesday, April 12th at 11 a.m.
