JOHN MONTGOMERY LOWNDES Colonel (retired), OStJ, CD, Q.C., LLB Peacefully, at age 90 and surrounded by the love of his family, John passed away at K Wing, Sunnybrook Hospital on Friday, February 24, 2017. Devoted and loving husband of 64 years of Marilyn McVittie, who will miss him terribly. Inspirational and loved father of Parry, Susan (Alan) Harrison, Jennifer, Margo (Michael) Jean-Marie and Jock (Anne) Lowndes. Adored grandfather to Lindsay, David, Michael, Tory, the late Christopher Harrison (1992), Scott, Jaime, AJ, Jenner, Douglas, Melanie, Heather and Jill. Great-grandfather to 8 and counting. Dear brother to Ann (J.D.) McVittie and son of the late Roy and Marjorie Lowndes (1990). Uncle and mentor to many. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Sunnybrook and K1C for their compassionate care. Former Commanding Officer, 48th Highlanders of Canada 1964-1967, Honorary Colonel 1988-1992, Commander, Toronto Militia District, 1974- 1976, H/ADC to the Governors General, 1967-1976 and a “Geriatric Jumper”, 1975. Served with the Army in Canada and the USA 1944-1945. Life Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada who enjoyed the practice of law for 53 years; Life Governor, former Chairman and H/Solicitor of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Great Lakes Division, honoured and Life Member of the 48th Highlanders Old Comrades Association, proud past commander of the OCA Veterans. Past member of: the Badminton & Racquet Club, the Toronto Golf Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165, the Rosedale Walking Club and until November, a wheelchair pusher at K and L Wings, Sunnybrook. Cremation has taken place and a service of remembrance will be held Friday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m., Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Ave. W.
