JUDYVELLA

VELLA, JUDY On July 15, 2017 the world lost an amazing woman. Judy Vella (nee Brain) built quite a reputation during her 75 years as a bridge player, educator, dear friend, painter and for constantly seeking out the fun in life. She was known and loved for her regular pilgrimages to Florida, strict adherence to yellow rubber gloves for all household tasks, love of redecorating other people’s living rooms and enjoyment of wine and parties. Her life is reflected in the words of Hunter S. Thompson, who said “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘wow!'” Judy is sorely missed by her daughters Megan Kavanagh and Ashley Vella; by her grandchildren Evan, Lola, Ben, Felix and Charlie; and by her sisters Mary Hughes, Pat Ostrow and Lindy Deckert. Her dear friends are too numerous to list. At Judy’s request, no funeral service will be held. Rather, friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life reception at Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, on July 25th, from 12-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers or donations, please take a moment to hug your parent, child, sibling or friend. Time waits for no one.
