JULIEANNE (HUGHES) RUPPEL

JULIE ANNE RUPPEL (nee HUGHES) At her home in Collingwood on April 6, 2017 in her 83rd year. Predeceased by her parents Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hughes of Kitchener-Waterloo, her husband George Leonard Ruppel of Elmira and her brother Ronald Maxwell Hughes of Calgary, Alberta. Julie attended Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and married in K-W and before moving to Collingwood with her husband, resided in the Greater Toronto Area. They enjoyed many trips around the world and spent over 40 summers at their cottage at Oliphant. Some of her activities in her youth included ballet lessons, violin, elocution and ornamental swimming. She was a member of the Canadian Girls in Training (United Church of Canada), was member of a YWCA club in K-W, recipient of the first honorary life membership in the Etobicoke Jaycettes, a member of By the Bay and Probus Club of Pretty River, volunteer at the Collingwood Hospital for over 9 years and enjoyed a game of bridge. She was employed by the Ontario Provincial Government in the Ministry of Northern Affairs travelling to remote areas to teach computer skills. Greatly interested in politics and as early as 12 years old was campaigning for the Progressive Conservative Party. She is survived by her sister-in-law Kay Hughes, her niece Shona Lauzon and her nephews Jamie Hughes, Kyle Hughes and Murray Hughes. Julie will be lovingly remembered by many grandnieces, grandnephews, family and friends and she will be missed for her quick sense of humour, sharp mind and generosity. A Celebration of Life Memorial Reception will be held at Raglan Village (89 Raglan St., Collingwood), on Thursday, April 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., friends are welcome to drop in between those times.
