KATHERINE RUTH ATCHESON (nee WEST) Passed away peacefully at Toronto General Hospital on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Kathie fought with tremendous strength and grace which gave her precious time to continue her legacy of being the wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend that we were lucky to love for so long. We are so thankful for all the years and beautiful memories. Every day was a blessing. She will be forever missed by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Peter, their children Cheryl (Bryan Dix) and Jim (Laura), her brothers Bill West (Gerry) and Tom West (Marilew) and her sisters-in-law Sally (Chris Sullivan) and Mary Atcheson (Bruce Hollenberg). She was cherished and adored by and will be missed by her grandsons Matthew (12), Cameron (10), Jack (7) and Max (4), who all loved her to the moon and back. Kathie also had a very special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews and many friends. She lived a life giving of herself to make others continuously feel included and at ease. Raised in Toronto, Kathie spent her summers with her family on Georgian Bay where she and Peter would eventually purchase their piece of paradise, Hare Point, Sans Souci Island, where so many wonderful memories where created with family and friends. Kathie and Peter recently retired close to the water in Wasaga Beach. In keeping with Kathie’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held later this summer on Georgian Bay. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the many staff at Princess Margaret Hospital for their exceptional care. In keeping with Kathie’s memory, she would ask that you spend time with your family and friends, take a walk with your loved ones and make a toast to enduring friendships, or complete a random act of kindness.
