KATHLEEN “JEAN” MacNICOL (née SKELTON) Died peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 20, 2017, at Parkview Home in Stouffville, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s. Daughter of Matthew Skelton and Lillian Edmison, Jean was born May 8, 1943 in Timmins, Ontario. Survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack MacNicol, daughters Glynnis and Alexis, son-in-law Jason, grandchildren Quinn, Zoe and Connor. Sister to Dick and wife Nicki Skelton and John and wife Karen Skelton. Aunt to John, Shelley, Jennifer, Alana and Megan. Raised in Timmins, Jean moved to Kitchener and attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School, graduating in 1961, as an Ontario scholar. She received her undergraduate degree at University of Waterloo in 1966, graduating with honours. An accomplished student, she went on to complete two Masters Degrees in History and Social Work, respectively, at the University of Toronto, on full academic scholarship. She received straight A’s throughout her education. Jean started her social work career at Huntley Youth Services in Toronto, where she counselled young mothers and troubled teenagers. She put her career on hold to raise her daughters, ever present in their lives at school, swim team and countless other activities. Jean returned to her passion as a Social Worker in the early nineties at Providence Healthcare in Scarborough and remained there until her retirement. She is remembered lovingly by all for her kindness, intelligence, extensive vocabulary and epic Christmas cards. No one ever left her presence without feeling better about themselves. Service will be held on Friday, March 24th 11 a.m. at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Reception to follow immediately.
