DALY, KATHRYN “KATE” HELEN November 29, 1945 – October 16, 2018 Kate passed away at Sunnybrook Hospital on October 16, 2018 surrounded by loving family.
Daughter of Helen and Murray Daly. Survived by siblings Peter, Paul (Marilyn Knox) and Maureen. Beloved aunt to Murray, Colleen and Margaux.
Kate grew up in Barry’s Bay, ON attending St. Joseph’s School through grade 10. Ever the precocious student, she completed high school in Toronto at St. Joseph’s Morrow Park, continuing on to complete her B.A. Honours in Language and Literature at University of Toronto. Kate then taught high school in Elliot Lake, Pembroke and Toronto, ON for several years before teaching abroad at Seisen International School in Tokyo for seven years.
Kate travelled extensively while living in Tokyo, including trips to Russia, China, the Philippines, Bali, Indonesia and several European countries. Upon return, Kate attended Queen’s Law School and was called to the bar in 1988, establishing practice in family law. She worked for law firms Fahey and Reeder in Keswick, ON; Still, McCalmont, Daly, Ung in Markham, ON; and subsequently went on into private practice for several years.
Kate’s generous, gentle spirit was ever-present in her love for animals and gardening. Her innate curiosity and delight in genuine character was forever stoked by tales of the Madawaska Valley and engaged through her adoration for film. Valued family member, Kate’s humour, wit and singular charm will be dearly missed. She has left an indelible mark on our hearts. Rest In Peace, Kate.
A visitation will be held at Heubner Funeral Home (43 Stafford Rd., Barry’s Bay, ON) on Friday, October 26th from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church (Barry’s Bay, ON) on Saturday, October 27th at 11 a.m. followed by interment. Cremation has already occurred.
