KevinPatrick ROONEY

ROONEY, Kevin Patrick June 13, 1966 – October 5, 2017 Surrounded by loved ones, our beautiful son, brother, uncle, friend and teacher passed away after a tough battle with cancer. Adoring partner to Push Shetty for two wonderful decades. Loving son to Daniel Rooney and devoted brother to Scott and his loving wife Carolyne Dee. The fun and urban-adventuring uncle to Aislyn, Anna and Alycea. Missed dearly by a wonderful extended family spanning Canada, Ireland and the USA. Predeceased by his loving mother, Dianne Rooney (nee Henson) and his dear friend Jennifer Reed. Kevin’s wonderfully rich life began in Pickering, Ontario. He was fortunate to visit many continents. Throughout his extensive travels, Kevin always called the GTA home. He thrived in education studies at Trent and Queens Universities. Friendships formed at Trent became the foundation of a community that continued to expand as his life matured. Kevin loved being an English and French Teacher and had the opportunity to connect with and guide his students in Peterborough (Peterborough Council for Voluntary Services), Toronto (Parkdale Public School and Don Mills Collegiate Institute) and Shanghai on a two year teaching sabbatical. Countless former students remember how Kevin not only inspired them to improve academically but blossom as human beings. His intellectual curiosity and passion for life motivated young people, within and beyond the classroom. He lived a richly cultured life and made sure his friends and family shared in this journey. Be it out dancing with the boys, watching the latest films, attending concerts and plays or exploring Toronto’s vibrant food scene with his beloved “Friday night dinner” gang, Kevin made the most of our great city. He expressed his love of the outdoors with frequent trips to the Orillia area and by running and cycling the ravine network. By any measure, Kevin lived a wonderful life. Sadly it was cut short – far too short. We will miss so many aspects of this wonderful man; especially his room-warming smile, his deep hugs and his gentle and caring spirit. We cherish all he gave us and will hold onto his memory dearly as we carry his compassionate and curious spirit forward. Rest in peace, our beautiful Kevin. Visitations on Thursday, October 12th, 2 – 4 and 5 – 8 p.m., at Morley Bedford Funeral Service Ltd., 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto. A memorial service will occur Friday, October 13th at 1:30 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of St. James, 65 Church Street, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, Push requests a donation in his honour to a charity of your choice.
