LoisBROWETT (nee Broughton)

BROWETT, Lois (nee Broughton) Our loss is great but our gratitude is endless for the cherished life of Lois Browett. With deeply saddened hearts, the family announces the passing of a wife (predeceased by her husband Lloyd) mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Passed away on August 26, 2017, age 93, at Macassa Lodge surrounded by her devoted family. Predeceased by Lloyd, her parents Alfred William Broughton and mother Catherine Ellen (nee Millhouse). Adoring wife of Lloyd, the love of her life for over 65 years. Dear sister of Phyllis, Mavis, Mable, Jean (her twin), Dick, and Stanley. Caring mother of Lynne, Bill (Lorraine), Lori (Phil), Lisa (Jody) and Brent (Angela). She also cherished her eight grandchildren, Alice, Mike, Amy, Emily, Brock, Taylor, Trent, Brigitte, and six great-grandchildren Raven, Zophia, Naomi, Cohen, Tristan, and Amna. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Lois was a dedicated and active member of St. John United Church, and especially the St. John’s UCW (United Church Women’s organization) and completing their archives. She was the foundation of her family, always willing to feed new found friends and grandchildren. She had a great fondness for her vast collection of cookbooks (many hundreds of them), a passion for baking (the best butter tarts) and a sweet compassion for all of the strays, both 4-legged and 2-legged, that her children would bring home. While she leaves behind many heavy hearts, her family and friends are comforted by many wonderful memories of her gentle, caring and positive spirit, her quick wit and keen sense of humour, her love of singing, and her endless ability to “smile, smile, smile”. Special thanks for the love and care provided by Helen and Bob, Marion, Caroline, Cathy, and Mary-Anne and Lois’s friends, as well as the staff at Macassa. Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. East, Hamilton, on Tuesday, August 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will also be at Cresmount on Wednesday, August 28th at 11 a.m. with a reception immediately after the funeral service. Interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial, 1895 Main Street West.
