deVRIES, Lykle (Ike) —

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Scarborough Grace (Birchmount) Hospital on March 6, 2017 shortly after celebrating his 87th birthday. Beloved husband of Florence (Garratt) deVries, married for 56 years. Dear father of Carl, Mark and Lisa (Nigel). Predeceased by parents Lykle and Martha deVries and siblings Joan, Frits and Henk. Survived by younger siblings Julia and Bill.

A proud alumnus of the 1954 Agricultural College of the University of Guelph and a longstanding member of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists. He also volunteered for many years and remained an active parishioner at St. Paul’s Church L’Amoreaux.

Ike travelled to countless countries throughout his career and experienced all that life had to offer. He shared his love of adventure and meeting new people with Florence right from the start. They lived in Sri Lanka and Somalia during their early years together before moving to Malawi for two years with their young sons. He continued to travel to many international destinations for work and vacation, always excited to visit with family and friends along the way, especially his Dutch relatives. Ike will always be known for his gentle kindness, generosity and sense of humour. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, March 9th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue East, Agincourt. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Church L’Amoreaux, 3333 Finch Ave. East, on Friday, March 10th at 1 p.m. A private interment to follow in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Ike’s honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
