LylaMary WEINSHEIMER

WEINSHEIMER, Lyla Mary (nee WINTEMUTE) “To all my students, past and present, I love you all. How many times did you hear that in class?” -from Those who can TEACH Lyla Mary Weinsheimer passed away gently on August 14, 2017 in her 93rd year. She was born on February 14, 1925 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Lyla is sadly missed by daughter Diane Porter (Rowe/Wallace) and partner David Young-Leslie and her granddaughter Jennifer Moad (Wallace) and Chris Moad with two great-granddaughters Alexa and Gabi. All the family and friends the world over are deeply saddened by this loss. Graduating from Ontario Teacher’s College in 1944 and embarking on a career spanning over 7 decades, Lyla spent almost 20 years in Cairo, Egypt before returning to Canada in August 2016. Daily life in Egypt was eased by her helper and ultimately dearest companion Araby Attia. Together they travelled the world and, with Araby’s attentive care, Lyla was able to continue her teaching well into her 91st year. The MW Becker Funeral Home in Keswick attended to the family’s needs; a celebration of Lyla’s life, exceedingly well lived, will take place on October 1, 2017 at niece Marg and Ian Henry’s home in Claremont. Gifts of tribute to the SOS Children’s Villages Canada would be greatly appreciated.
