MarikaEmma TAMM

TAMM, Marika Emma October 13, 1966 – October 13, 2017 Marika died suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack caused by diabetes. She grew up in the leafy suburb of Don Mills, and, as a brilliant scholar, moved on to The University of Toronto Schools for high school tuition. Besides regular school, Marika also took part in the Estonian studies program, organized by the Estonian community of Toronto. There she improved her Estonian language skills, and participated in rhythmic gymnastics and folk-dancing. Half way through a Computer Science course at Waterloo University, she switched to English Literature. Marika followed her BA with a Dr.jr. degree at University of Toronto Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1994. Her working career started by spending eight years as a Senior Editor at a legal publishing firm. Since that time Marika worked as a Freelance Editor, getting some work from The Upper Canada Law Society, completing the assignments via the Internet on her computer at home. Marika claimed to be self-sufficient, and would not accept help from others. But unfortunately the reverse was true – she was slowly running down her physical and mental self. For the last few weeks she reluctantly accepted help, but, alas, it was too late! Marika is survived by her father, Eero and some good friends in Toronto. Most of her relatives are in Estonia, the birth country of her parents – an aunt and a number of nieces and nephews plus their families. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto.
