BRAUN, Mary —
1952 – 2017
Surrounded by her family, after a lengthy fight with Posterior Cortical Atrophy, Mary died on May 20th, at the age of 65. Loving wife of Alex Norton and mother to Lindsay Norton (Avery Ironside), Sandy Norton (Mel Shields). Cherished grandma to Arlan Ironside. Predeceased by parents Harold & Margaret Braun of Thunder Bay. Loving sister to Sue Peter (Doug), Jane Fogh-Dohmsmidt (Paul), Nancy Braun (Jamie Sokalsky). Mary will also be dearly missed by her nieces & nephews, and friends around the world. Mary grew up in Thunder Bay and graduated from Lakehead University. She then graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School, and recently retired from the legal department of the City of Toronto. We will remember Mary for her love of art and bright colours – especially “Mary pink”; her passion for the outdoors including gardening, walks along the Humber River, and skiing in Ontario and at Silver Star. Mary had a love of travel, and instilled her love of reading in her children through excellent bedtime stories. Her bright smile and deep caring will be missed. Family wishes to thank Dr. Sharon Cohen and Michelle Martinez of the Toronto Memory Program for their care throughout the past 7 years, and Dr. Joshua Tepper for his care and compassion at the end. Friends will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W. (at 14th St., between Islington and Kipling Aves., 416-259-3705) on Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel on Wednesday May 24th at 11:00 am. For service, please wear your favourite “Mary pink” or other bright colour or accent.
