MaryDallas Barrow ROGERS

ROGERS, Mary Dallas Barrow (nee ROBB) 1918 – 2017 Mary Dallas, born in Abderdeen, Scotland, September 28, 1918, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by the love of her “girls” on June 22, 2017 in Calgary. Deeply saddened by the loss of their much loved step-mother are her devoted step-children: Maureen (Eamonn) O’Sullivan, Nora (Basil) Cuddihy, Eileen Rogers, Terry (Marg) Rogers, Gerry (Denise) Rogers and Michele (Robb) Waldner. We will remember Mary with great love and will cherish our memories of our very special “wicked step-mother”. Also mourning her loss are her 15 step-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren. Mary was a loving and devoted aunt and great-aunt to her Ontario family: Frank (Barb) Crichton, Barb (late Allen) Woodcock, Mary (Barry) Wood, Beth (Fred) Crichton, Steve (Karen) Robb and Dawna (Doug) Thompson and many (13) great and great-great (14) nieces and nephews. They will always have fond memories and a special place in their hearts for their much loved Aunt Mary. Mary will also be remembered by her brother-in-law Jim Crichton. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Reginald Barrow, in 1973 and by her second husband, Arthur Rogers, in 2000. She was also predeceased by her dear sister Jean Crichton, her beloved brother Frank Robb and his wife Aileen, her nephew Gord Robb and his wife Wendy and her great-nephew Robb Thompson. Mary lived most of her life in Toronto only moving to Calgary at age 87 to be closer to her step-children. She was a very talented and well-respected musician in Toronto playing the French Horn as a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Promenade Symphony, CBC Symphony Orchestra and the Boss Brass. In the early days of live TV, Mary was a popular (and often the only female) member of the big bands for shows such as Juliette and Wayne & Shuster. Her musical talent contributed greatly to the Toronto music scene and gave her much joy and happiness which she shared with audiences over several decades. The family would like to thank Dr. Foyle and the staff at Brentwood Nursing Home, Hillhurst Unit for their care and thoughtfulness throughout Mary’s stay at Brentwood. A memorial service for Mary will be held at a later date in Markham, Ontario.
