BURTCH, Mary Frances (August 17, 1948) died peacefully on June 20, 2017 at Toronto General Hospital. Beloved wife of Dave Burtch of Pickering and mother of Stephen (Alanna Redman) of Toronto and Gordon Burtch (Kate Bak) of Minneapolis, MN. Grandmother of Liliana, Joan, Everett and Charles Burtch. Sister of Leslie Singh (Rick) of South Surrey, BC, Nancy Boyd (Bruce) of Etobicoke, Stephen Dow (Carolynn) of Newmarket and the late Kenneth Dow. Aunt of Katherine Singh, Victoria Singh, Cameron Boyd (Melissa Rorison), Laura Jepson (Andrew), Allison Dow, Mitchell Dow and Zachary Dow. Predeceased by her father, Charles Edgar Waugh, her mother, Mary Elizabeth Chilman and her step-mother, Joy Alberta Moffat. Mary worked tirelessly for 43 years as a Secondary School Math Teacher and then Vice Principal with the Scarborough and Toronto District School Boards. She retired from R.H. King Academy as Vice Principal in June of 2013. She was a dedicated advocate for labour and education, working diligently on contract negotiations whenever the opportunity arose. She was an active member of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF). She served as Chair of the Toronto School Administrators Association (TSAA) and was elected President of the Ontario Principals Council (OPC). Friends will be received by the family at the Ogden Funeral Home, 4164 Sheppard Avenue E., Toronto, on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held at the Ogden Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 with cremation to follow. A private interment will be scheduled separately.
