Mary Concetta Galea, affectionately known as Nana, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2016 at the age of 94. Nana died surrounded by her loving husband of 73 years, Jim Galea (known as Nanu), her devoted seven children Ted Galea, Charlie Galea, Stella Nieckarz, George Galea, Connie Dejak, May Cass, Joyce Schertzer and their respective spouses and families. Nana’s unconditional love was felt by her seven children, as well by her eighteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was a woman of strength who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—family, friends, laughter and love. She devoted herself to her children, grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Each of us found strength from her love to say our final goodbye to a woman we love, respect and will always honour.
We would like to recognize Dr. Stephen Ng whose medical expertise and compassion brought great comfort to our family. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated team of Nurses and all the staff at Runnymede Healthcare Centre who cared for our mother, especially during her final days.
In keeping with Nana’s wishes, a Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 3224 Dundas St. West, at 9:15 a.m. on June 22, 2016. A reception to follow in the Church Hall directly after the Mass. –
