MaryGwendolyn Stacey “Meim” MADDEN

MADDEN, Mary “Meim” Gwendolyn Stacey (nee NELSON) In the very early hours of Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Sunnybrook Health Services Centre, with her daughter Stacey and husband Jack at her side. Meim was the matriarch of all she surveyed. During her 7 day stay in Sunnybrook, she was surrounded with love and support by friends and family. Mary leaves her husband, of 48 and three quarter years, Jack Madden to continue “grandparenting” their three grandchildren Jack (11), Michael (8) and Lexi (5). She was an outstanding and fiercely dedicated mother to daughter Stacey Madden Procyk and “son” Ken Procyk. Coming from a family of 12, she is survived by 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Brothers Mark Nelson (Kim), Ollie Nelson (Cathy), Henry Nelson “Hank” (Nancy), Paul Nelson (Janis) and sisters Debbie Nelson, Nancy Boeckner (Alan), Linda Nelson, Elena Betts, Alma Greenough, Marlene (Louise) Symanski (Bob) as well as brother-in-law, Pat Madden (Sherry) and best friend and dear sister-in-law Sirpa Nelson. Surrogate grandmother and caregiver to Jimmy, Emma and Lauren Hillyard, Gabby, Giselle and Asher Marley and Sarah and Rachie Procyk. She was the beloved “Auntie Meme” to literally hundreds of nieces and nephews. Meim was predeceased by dearly loved brother David “Skinny” Nelson, and parents; Muriel Corbett, Henry Stacey, Harry Nelson, and Ellard Corbett. Meme was a magical woman whose love, enthusiasm and sense of occasion served as the glue that kept her family and friends together. Meim’s life experiences forged a generosity and kindness of spirit that profoundly and positively shaped the lives of those around her. She left us suddenly, and leaves a massive void in all our lives. Rest now Mom, we got this! Friends may call at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, Richmond Hill from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 18th. Celebration of Meim’s life at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel. Interment Newmarket Cemetery with a reception to follow. Charitable donations to Plan Canada or Salvation Army would be a wonderful way to honour her memory.
