MICHAELWILLIAM LORD BONNELL

MICHAEL WILLIAM LORD BONNELL Age 84, passed away peacefully April 13, 2017 at Bracebridge after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. The beloved husband, companion and best friend of Karen Ann (nee List) for 43 years. Father of Michael J. (Joan) of Beaverton, Oregon and uncle of Sherry Crowder (Tim) of Kamloops, BC and Kim Parker (Trevor), of Sidney, BC. We all will miss Michael’s wonderful stories of growing up in England during WWII and the challenges he faced and overcame when immigrating to Canada at age 14 in 1947. A man of immense integrity and honesty, firm when making decisions and always fair. These traits set the foundation for a successful career in the carpet industry for over 40 years and he leaves behind many friends in that business. Karen’s fondest memories of Michael are of the fun-loving, kind, warm and gentle man who swept her off her feet and brought laughter into her life for many years. Karen would like to thank Dr. Kirstein and Dr. Bawa and Nurse Linda of the Bracebridge Medical Clinic for their compassionate and steadfast care of Michael over the years, as well as all the staff at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital. It is Karen’s wish to have people and, society as a whole, give better respect to those suffering from Alzheimer’s and have Government dedicate more resources and finances to the comfort and care of those afflicted with dementia. A heartfelt thank you goes out to The Friends Organization, especially those associated with the adult day care program, Erica, Kristy and Maggie and Evelyn, Michael’s Tuesday sitter; Judy and Gary Boorman, Sharon and Paul Nix, Martha and Lawton Osler, Elizabeth and Edward Ring, Shirley Gates, Sheila Gossen, Tony and Jackie Griffin and Joyce Hardie for their friendship and encouragement over the years making it possible for Karen to cope with the day to day frustrations and loneliness associated with caring for someone affected by Alzheimer’s. Cremation has taken place and there will be no ceremony to celebrate Michael’s life. However, if you so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, The Friends Organization, Gravenhurst or the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation Bracebridge in Michael’s memory.
