SETTERINGTON, Mildred Emms (nee Read) —
January 2, 1921 – March 7, 2017
Passed away peacefully in her beloved home, in her 97th year. Mildred was the dearly loved mother of Wendy (Gerry Swinkin) and Ken (Martin Fichman) and the very proud grandmother of Emily, Julian (Hannah Fairhead) and Madeleine Swinkin. She was predeceased by Jack Leland Setterington, her cherished husband of thirty-four years, her sisters, Norma White of Victoria, Clare Paterson of Vancouver, her brother, Douglas Read of Nanaimo and her devoted second partner of thirteen years, Harry Coleman. Also missing her are Gloria and Gary Ratcliffe, Glynis, Raj, Anjali and Cashel Panikkar.
Many attributes come to mind when remembering our mother. She was beautiful, clever, an inspired gardener, shrewd, a canny penny stock trader, artistic, an accomplished dress designer, funny, argumentative, determined, a baker of delicious desserts, creative and kind.
Finally, we thank Rizza Cristobal, our mother’s perfect caregiver. She is the one who made it possible for Mildred to live at home so happily these last six years.
