MURRAY J. CHANT

September 25, 1950 – March 3, 2017

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Murray Chant. He leaves behind Debbie, the love of his life, his best friend and soul mate of forty-four years. Predeceased by his parents, Dixon and Marion Chant and brother Brian (Evelyn). Adored son-in-law to Gavin and Shirley Clark, much loved brother-in-law to Sharon Shannon (Michael), Chris Clark (Pamela Fitch), and Kevin Clark (Toni Shaw). Cool and adored uncle of Stephanie and Laura Clark, and Jamie, Peter and Sarah Clark. He is lovingly remembered by Bob Coleman (Lee), Chris Chant (Joan), Bob Chant (Annie Pejovich), Jo-Anne (Adrian Zoon), Murray McLaren, Brad McLaren, Ken Scott, Karen Scott and their families. Educated at Upper Canada College, Murray attended Western University, obtaining an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Business Administration), and thereafter obtained his Chartered Professional Accounting designation with Clarkson Gordon. He continued his career at Wood Gundy and CIBC and subsequently became involved with a number of small enterprises using his financial skills and investment expertise.

Generous and kind, Murray embodied all things good. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour, which brought such pleasure and laughter to so many. With his fun loving, humble and compassionate nature, he became fondly referred to as Murr, among his family and friends. With Debbie by his side, he relished his travels to Lyford Cay, golfing at Muskoka and Rosedale and numerous trips abroad to Europe. We will miss being with him for cocktails in the garden or on the deck in Muskoka, where he delighted us with his wit, humour and perspectives on the events and political stories of the day. A sports fan to the core, Murray could tell you the trades, scores and details of his favorite baseball, hockey and basketball teams. We are truly enriched for having known him.

Private arrangements are being held. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Michael’s Hospital, Dr. G. Kandel, Gastroenterology or to Ryerson University, The Murray and Debbie Chant Award. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com
