Murray GIRT
GIRT, Murray Passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017 at St. Catharines General Hospital, Murray is survived by his loving wife Grace (nee Mitton) of 59 wonderful years. Born in Hamilton on September 30, 1928. Predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Irene (McCay) Girt and sister Dorothy McBurney he is survived by sister Florence Wood. Proud parent of daughters Valerie (Tony Cicconi), Lynne (Chris Swift) and Barbara (Marc Frenette). Will be missed by grandchildren Michael (Sabrina), Lou (Melissa), Luisa (Jake), Kyla (Nadia), Braden (Selina), Jessica and step grandsons Zachary, Jacob and Matthieu and great-grandson Anthony. Hired at Stelco in 1944, he was transferred to Welland Page-Hersey in 1967 where he retired as General Supervisor of Office Services in 1992. Moving to Vineland in 2010, Murray enjoyed retirement living in Heritage Village. Active in community service, Murray was past President of the Hamilton Jaycees, President of the Welland and District United Way and former Chairman of the Board for the Welland County General Hospital. In keeping with Murray’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration service will be held at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St. Vineland on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. Visitation on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 7 – 8:30 p.m. Many thanks to all the Nurses and Doctors at St. Catharines General Hospital.
