NELLIEJONUSAITIS

NELLIE JONUSAITIS It is with great sadness that the family of Nellie Jonusaitis announces her passing on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in her 94th year. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family. Nellie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 68 years, Martin and her cherished children: Ray (Jeanne), Ed (Susan), Ilona (Jim) and John (Briare), mociute to her grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffrey (Jessica), her great-grandchild, Matthew; and her surviving sister Olyte in Lithuania. She was predeceased by her sister Stase and her brother Peter in Lithuania. She immigrated with her husband to Canada in 1948, following the war and began her new life in South Porcupine, Ontario. She quickly acclimated to her new home and became a rapacious picker of blueberries and mushrooms. Her baking and family dinners will always be fondly remembered, particularly her signature apple cake served between periods during Saturday night hockey games. Sensing opportunity and seizing the future for the family, Nellie, Martin and their four children moved to Southern Ontario, residing in Oakville for the past 52 years. Nellie had a deep abiding love for her adopted country, Canada. She was a strong matriarch whose wisdom and unwavering devotion to her family placed their wellbeing and happiness above all else. Her love, strength of character and commitment to Christ were the guiding principles she instilled throughout. Nellie’s values will endure in her family for generations to come. She was our little champion and we will miss her dearly. Friends of the family may call at the Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. In respect of the wishes for privacy, friends may contact the immediate family for details regarding the funeral service.
