DAVIS, Noreen Alice Sophie (nee Hemmerick) “Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.” Noreen Davis of Toronto passed away peacefully September 2, 2017 in her 87th year. Born in Verdun, Quebec, on December 29, 1929 to Elva Vera Wright and John Anthony Hemmerick, she is survived by her daughter Karen Davis (Dennis Huras), her sisters Elva Szabo (Alex), Carol Deckers (Philippe) and Rhonda Timmons (Terry) and her brother Fred Gandey (Betty). Noreen was predeceased by her parents and sisters Alfreda Hemmerick (McNeil Downey), Sylvia Harper (Michael) and her former husband Stuart Tennant Davis. She was the matriarch of the family and her siblings, many nieces and nephews and family friends loved her dearly and will miss her great humour, love of books, handmade treasures and the thoughtfulness she shared with all. Her ashes will be buried in Montreal at the Mount Royal Cemetery at a later date followed by a celebration of life. The family extends gratitude to all the staff of the Gibson Retirement Residence for their friendship and daily-living support, as well as to the nurses and doctors at the Scarborough Hospital Birchmount site (4a wing) for their care and compassion in Noreen’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scarborough Hospital, the Alzheimer Society or Canadian Cancer Society.
