Paul Vardges KAPRIELIAN
KAPRIELIAN, Paul Vardges September 13, 1929 – June 9, 2016 Dearly beloved by his parents, the late Kapriel and Lousaper Kaprielian; by his wife, Eleanor; by his siblings, Norman Sarkis (dec.), Johnny Zaven (dec.) and Isabel (Stacy) Churchill; by his nephews, Albert (Anoush) Kaprielian and Lance (Karen) Kaprielian, and by his niece, Marina (Haig) Seferian. He was the loving great-uncle of Matthew and Zoie Seferian, Aris, Jivan and Remy Kaprielian, and Ahsha and Declan Kaprielian. Paul was born and raised in Hamilton where he excelled in academics and the arts, especially music and theatre. He played Othello in an Armenian translation of the Shakespearean play. His last role was as the priest in Atom Egoyan’s epic film, Ararat. Paul was proud of his Armenian roots and of his Canadian heritage. As a teenager he joined the army cadets and the sea cadets. An amateur military historian, he was an expert on events of World War II. Paul was an astute judge of character and could quickly detect hypocrisy. A strong-willed man, Paul stood by his principles and his beliefs. He had a way with words that was always “right on.” His dynamic spirit drew people to him and his vibrant humour held their attention and affection. Dearest Paul, you made our lives more exciting and more joyful. We still needed you and will love you forever. Paul’s funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Armenian Church, 45 Hallcrown Place (401 and Victoria Park, Toronto), on Friday, June 17th at 11:00 a.m. Viewing 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow at York Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Kaprielian Family Literary Prize, c/o Armenian Relief Society, 45 Hallcrown Place, Toronto, M2J 4Y4.
