ARKAS, Penelope “Popi” Passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving nieces and family at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 5, 2017 in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late Spyros Arkas (March 2010). Dear sister of Despina Budis and her late husband Emmanuel (2002) of Queens, New York. Predeceased by her late sister Vasilia (2008) and her husband the late Athanasios Psarakis (2006). Loving godmother and aunt of Dr. Stella Psarakis and her husband Kostas Kandilas, Helen Vastis and her husband George, Katina Paleologos and her husband Spiros. Will also be sadly missed by her nephews Peter and his wife Anggie Budis, John Budis and his late wife Sophie (2009) and the late Demetrios Budis (1997), all of New York. Cherished by great-nieces and nephews, Vasilia and Peter-George Vastis, Olivia and Celia Paleologos, Despina and Demetrios Budis and Emmanuel and Maria Budis. Also survived by cousins Litsa and Tassos Bezas and family. Popi was the sister-in-law of the late Stelios and Georgia Arkas, nephew Christos and her late niece Dina and their families in Greece. Popi leaves behind many other family members, godchildren and friends, both here and in Greece. She had a strong faith, a big personality, was full of life and relished in helping others. Popi had a great love for her family, her adopted land and her birthplace, Lemnos, Greece. Mrs. Arkas is at the DODSWORTH & BROWN Funeral Home, ROBINSON CHAPEL (King Street East, at Wellington) where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. With prayers at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service from St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 22 Head Street, Hamilton on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Foster and all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.
