McKENNA, Phyllis Jane —

August 4, 1932 – March 12, 2017

Phyllis’ work here is now done. It all began on a small farm in Hampton, New Brunswick when she was born of Doris (Pring) and Cyril Corner, the second of 10 children. As the oldest daughter, her first job in the morning was to milk the cows and light the stove before the family awoke. She was seventeen when this courageous girl hopped a train to Toronto by herself. It was there that she met her “pin up boy”, Charlie, in a New Toronto bowling alley. They married on May 7, 1955 and added Arthur, Colleen (Eric), Charlie (Marie), Marie, and John (Kim) to their family. The family now includes fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was tirelessly dedicated and loving to them all. For 42 years, she worked side-by-side with her “Chuckie” at McKenna Moving & Storage that became McKenna’s Warehouse. She was a hard working girl at home as well as in her career that included time at Sussex Ginger Ale (New Brunswick), Campbell Soup, and Venus Pencil where she enjoyed working with many friends. Phyllis’ contagious laugh and love of celebrating with family, friends, or anyone who happened to be near is how she will be remembered. She was a great woman and an even better mother. If you wish, please consider making a donation to Armagh (www.ArmaghHouse.ca) in memory of Phyllis instead of flowers. Family and friends may visit Friday, March 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 11A.M. at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 625 Atwater Ave., Mississauga (at Cawthra Rd.).
