WAUGH, Richard Douglas (Doug) Born on July 5, 1955 It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the death of Doug Waugh, beloved husband, father, son, brother, mentor, colleague, and friend, on July 17, 2017. Doug is predeceased by his father and mother, Richard Douglas and Patricia Waugh. He will forever be in the hearts of Lily, his beloved wife and dearest friend of 39 years, and his cherished sons Ryan and Reagan, and family pet Lexie. Doug will be sadly missed by his sisters Debbie Soklofske (Barry), Shelley Dowling (Doug), and brothers Bruce (Colleen), and Eric, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives. He will be lovingly remembered by sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Dan Vandesompele. Doug was in his 63rd year. He loved life, his friends, work, and above all his family. He always put others first. He was an avid cyclist with a passion for the outdoors. He loved to travel. He was a coach and volunteer, a man of integrity, a gentle man, a man who inspired many, and who was loved by all who knew him. Doug was Deputy Chief of Hamilton Emergency Medical Services, and proudly served Hamilton and the community for over 30 years. His career began with Superior Ambulance, and throughout his career he served in various roles including Advanced Care Paramedic. The family wishes to thank Hamilton Emergency Medical Services, Hamilton Fire Services, and Hamilton Police Services, for their support. Visitation will take place at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017. The Vigil Prayers for Doug will be held Thursday evening at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Annunciation of Our Lord Parish, 280 Limeridge Road West, Hamilton, at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 21, 2017. Private family interment will follow. A celebration of life will take place at Michelangelo Banquet Centre, 1555 Upper Ottawa Street, Hamilton, on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Family and friends welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory can be made to CityKidz, Neighbour to Neighbour, or the 3 Wishes Program (c/o Intensive Care Unit, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton).
