ROSALINDBARKLEY

ROSALIND BARKLEY Born August 9, 1921 in Lacombe, Alberta, Roz met the love of her life, the late Hal Barkley, when he was in Calgary on assignment from the Toronto Star. They were married in Toronto in 1949 and moved to Gloucester Ave. in Oakville in 1956. Roz and Hal had 3 children: Sharon (Christine), Douglas and Robert (Karen); 5 grandchildren: Samantha, Mathew, Peter, Stephen and Kate and one great-granddaughter Leanna; and was a surrogate mother to many who called her “Mrs. B”. Roz taught Sunday School, was a Brownie Leader, a Hospital Auxiliary and May Court volunteer. She loved to play Bridge and was a reluctant but willing “first mate” sailing out of the Oakville Club and Oakville Yacht Squadron. She danced and sang during the glory years of Cabaret at the Oakville Club. Roz loved to travel including an annual trip to Vero Beach and great vacations with the Wells and “Wizzies” and the Bainbridges. Best of all she was a great friend, a devoted and cherished wife, mother and grandmother. Rosalind died peacefully at her home of 3-plus years in Churchill Place, on January 24, 2017, in her 96th year. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the May Court Club of Oakville and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation would be appreciated.
