Died peacefully at Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in the 71st year of her religious life. She is predeceased by her parents, Valentine J. Allen and Martha Malcolm, her sisters, Sister Mary Martha (Kae) (Good Shepherd), Sister Margaret, CSJ, Sister Martha, CSJ, and her brothers Edward, Reverend Murray D. Allen, and the Most Reverend Francis V. Allen. She will be sadly missed by her family and nieces, especially Ann Frances and Marie, as well as her friends, associates and Sisters in Community. Sister Marie Allen was a member of Holy Name parish and a graduate of St. Joseph’s College School. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, September 8, 1945. Sister Marie was a gifted teacher. Her education included a Master in Education and a Master in religious Education. For many years, Sister Marie held many positions as teacher and principal in the Catholic school system. The Etobicoke/York Region Metropolitan School Board praised her for her contribution to Catholic Education as they recognized her “unique professional and human qualities in service to children”. Sister Marie became passionately involved with the Canadian Food for Children Project and educated many to the reality of world hunger. Sister Marie was also involved in the social outreach program, Becoming Neighbours, which assists immigrants in becoming enculturated into Canadian society. She was a pastoral visitor to the elderly and contributed to this ministry at Village Mosaic, an outreach program for seniors. Sister Marie struggled with ill health for the last few months. She died peacefully at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto. Visitation is at Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario, Thursday, August 18, 2016, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, August 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. Chapel, 2 O’Connor Drive, Toronto, Ontario. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
