Peacefully at 2 O’Connor Residence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Toronto, Ontario.

Sister Sheila McAuliffe of the Congregation of Notre Dame died on Sunday, November 13, 2016, in her ninety-first year. She was predeceased by her parents, James Francis McAuliffe and Margaret Ellen Kennedy and four siblings, Mary Guiry, Anne Marwick, Theresa Brown and her brother James McAuliffe. She is survived by three sisters, Helen (Ed) Parent, Maureen (Dick) Grannon and Norah McAuliffe. Sister Sheila is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, as well as several cousins.

She will be fondly remembered by the members of her religious community, the Congregation of Notre Dame, her former students and collaborators in ministry.

Sister Sheila was born in Lonsdale, Ontario and made her Religious Profession in 1946. In the following years, she dedicated her life to education in Ottawa, Brockville, Kingston and Toronto. She completed studies at Catholic University before assuming the position of Catechetics Director for the Archdiocese of Kingston. In 1970, Sister Sheila moved into Adult Education and the Professional Development of teachers for the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA). At the same time, she maintained her desire to minister to young women attempting to complete their education in spite of outstanding obstacles.

Sister Sheila was an active member of both the Provincial Council of Women of Ontario and the Soroptimist International of Toronto. Following her retirement from education, she served the Community in the ministry of Local Leadership in Toronto.

Friends will be received at her residence at 2 O’Connor Drive on Wednesday, November 16th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 8:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Chapel at 2 O’Connor Drive on Thursday, November 17th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow, after cremation, in Holy Name of Mary Parish Cemetery, Marysville, Ontario.
