STEPHEND. SZEP

SZEP, P. Eng., STEPHEN D. slipped away peacefully at home on June 23, 2017. Stephen was born in Budapest, Hungary, on December 22, 1922 and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University, Budapest, and the University of Toronto. Mechanical Engineering was the passion of his life and he was a project manager for several major projects during his time with Fenco, Lavalin and UTDC: a floating dock for the anchoring of ocean going ships in the Bay of Fundy which has the world’s greatest tides; the Algoma Tube Mill project in Sault Ste. Marie; the Alcan Aluminum smelter at Grande Baie, Quebec; the Aluminerie de Becancour in Quebec; the delivery of streetcars for the province of Ontario. Steve loved skiing, sailing, window shopping, the cottage he built and guests at his home. And he was loved by many friends in North America and Europe and the young engineers he mentored. Steve will be forever missed by his wife Jutta and lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law Jenoe, his nieces Jutka with husband Bob and their children, spouses and grandchildren and Zsuzsa and her husband David. Special thanks go to Dr. M. Gharagozloo for his care and compassion during Steve’s illness and to Naomi, his attentive and kind caregiver. We will say Good Bye to Steve on Friday, July 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church (432 Sheppard Avenue East) and lift a glass in his honour at the Granite Club (2350 Bayview Avenue) afterwards. Please do not send flowers but instead make a donation to Doctors Without Borders or SOS Children’s Villages Canada.
