Terence (Terry) Anthony BUCKLE

P. Eng., M.B.A

Born June 14, 1933 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, died March 28, 2017 in Mississauga, Ontario, with his family by his side, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease, Lewy Body dementia and a recent stroke. Engineer, woodworker, world traveller and fixer of all things broken. Beloved husband of Alberta (nee Fox) and cherished father of Cheryl (Scott) and Leslie (Dan). Adored Grandad of Bradley, Jeffrey and Eric. Survived by his sister Enid Dorn of Kelowna, BC.

The Buckle family emigrated from war torn Britain to Saskatchewan following his elder sister Enid, who married Roland Dorn, a Canadian soldier. Terry attended the University of Saskatchewan for electrical engineering and in the summers he flew Harvard aircraft for the RCAF out of Trenton, Ontario. After graduation, he became part of the permanent staff at Ontario Hydro and spent his career with them in the Systems Planning division. He was assigned to a two year term in Nigeria in 1976 where he and Alberta formed strong friendships based on a shared love of travel and bridge. Terry travelled extensively around the world with his family and friends, visiting more than 40 countries during his lifetime. His final trip was an amazing adventure to Namibia where he celebrated his 80th birthday.

Terry enjoyed the theatre, symphony and ballet, as well as playing bridge, golf and curling. He was a member of the Oakville Curling Club and enjoyed playing with them for many years. Terry was a skilled craftsman and a large number of the furniture pieces that grace the cottage were products of both his design skill and his woodworking abilities. The family built two cottages, Miskwabi Lake and Lake Kashagawigamog, both of which he designed.

He possessed a keen analytical mind and a quiet dry humour. He was strongly devoted to his wife and family and will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of the 6J ward of the Trillium Hospital, M site, for their warmth, care and compassion. Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of life reception will take place on Sunday, April 9th at the Credit Valley Golf and Country Club, 2500 Old Carriage Road, Mississauga, from 2 to 5 p.m. If desired, donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated
