Vasyl(Bill) DUDKA

DUDKA, Vasyl (Bill) Passed away peacefully on August 18, 2017 in his 92nd year. Beloved and devoted husband of Tamara. Dearly loved father/ “tato” and father-in-law of Irene (John) and Nina (Andrew). “Dido” took great pride in his cherished grandchildren Larissa, Marcus and Arabella. He was born in Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk and overcame many hardships including the Ukrainian Famine Genocide-Holodomor and forced labour in Germany at a very young age. After immigrating to Canada, Vasyl settled in Montreal, then eventually Hamilton, where he raised his family and built a successful construction business. Vasyl was a life-long learner and continually strived to do his very best at all times. He enjoyed reading and writing and loved to passionately recite Ukrainian poetry. He continued to proudly sing his favourite folk songs to the last days of his life. Vasyl took great pleasure being in the company of friends and family and always looked forward to a competitive game of cards or chess. He was an avid golfer and long-time member of King’s Forest Golf Club. Our gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff at Juravinski Hospital (F3 Medicine and CCU). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME , 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), Hamilton on Monday from 7 – 9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Vladimir Ukrainian-Orthodox Cathedral, 855 Barton St. East, Hamilton on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ukrainian Social Services of Hamilton or St. Vladimir Ukrainian-Orthodox Cathedral would be appreciated. VICHNAYA PAMYAT!
