SMYTH, Wanita Eileen (nee SNELGROVE) Died peacefully at Shalom Village in Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband Delmar McCormick (Mac) Smyth. She is survived by her nephews Craig Taylor (Lynda Humes), Brampton, and Roy Smyth (Inge Zegel), Vancouver, and her great- niece Sara Smyth, Melbourne, Australia, as well as many other friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Hazel Ida (nee Vansickle) and her sister Maida Doreen (Donald Taylor). Wanita met Mac while attending the University of Toronto and they were married on June 29, 1946. Thus began a life full of travel and international friendships. She was a very kind, warm and loving woman who enjoyed playing the piano. She was an excellent cook and homemaker, who took great pride in creating a welcoming home with beautiful gardens. Wanita loved children and worked at the Hospital for Sick Children. She became a Life Member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1985 after years of active service. She supported Mac in all of his entrepreneurial, political and academic ventures and shared with him a strong Christian faith. Her passing closes the chapter on the worldly adventures of this vital couple. A celebration of Wanita’s life will take place at the Central Presbyterian Church, 165 Charlton Avenue West, Hamilton, on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto or the Central Presbyterian Church in Hamilton.
